Game Storyline

Players take on the role of a fish store owner who must breed and care for hundreds of different kinds of exotic fish, all the while attempting to keep the fish store economically viable long enough to achieve the ultimate objective: breeding The Seven Magic Fish.

Gameplay

Players start with only a small selection of fish, some money, and a fish tank. Money is earned by selling fish. With this additional supplies, medicine, and special chemicals are available to be bought, along with the options of researching environments, food, and advertisement (three levels for each) for your fish shop. Although the game runs in real time, it can be paused - normally the life in the aquarium(s) runs even when you exit the game or turn off your computer. It takes ≥ 1000 fish to get enough money for the sunken ship ornament (most expensive item found ($3500)).

Tip:

You can price a fish at infinity dollars, sell it, and then you can get whatever you want. Yes, people still will buy it after a few tries. To get infinity, you must keep clicking 9 on the price chart. This may take a while, but it is worth it!

Breeding Fish

There are 441 fish to discover within the game. Each breed of fish is assigned a value from 1 to 21, as well as each fin type.

To breed fish, put a fish in the isolation tank, then put another fish to it. The one in the isolation tank will become pregnant, and have baby fish within a few fish years. Only adult fish can breed. When you breed two types of fish, the breed and fin type are averaged, resulting in a new fish. See this Fish Tycoon Breeding Chart for the complete list of fish and fin types, along with an application and excel sheet to help you breed your fish.

Magic Fish

There are 7 different "Magic Fish".

  • Greenfin Spotanus: It is the Magic Fish of Fertility. Any fish that breeds will get three guppies instead of the usual two with this fish in the tank.
  • Speckled Leaffish: It is the Magic Fish of Sustenance. It has the same effect as Research Food, which is known to let the fish need food less often.
  • Crimson Comet: It is the Magic Fish of Curing. It is natural fish medicine.
  • Oriental Goldbulb: It is the Magic Fish of Growth. Young fish grow up faster with this species in the fish tank. It is also an expensive fish, though you can price it at any price you want, even infinity dollars.
  • Orange Snooper: It is the Magic Fish of Health. Fish tend to be healthier with this species of snooper in the tank.
  • Wasp Grouper: It is the Magic Fish of Mutation. With it, the fish will easily make unrelations.
  • Canary Fire-Arrow: It is the Golden Guppy of Isola. This legendary fish will make you a rich fish breeder.
