Collapse

Collapse! is a puzzle game developed by GameHouse in 1998. It is the first title in the Collapse! series of games. In Collapse!, the player's goal is to remove colored blocks in groupings of three or more by clicking on them, thus scoring points and advancing through more challenging levels.

Description

In Collapse!, players click on colored blocks in groupings of three or more to remove them from a board, score points, and advance through more challenging levels. When a group is removed, the blocks above drop down to fill the hole. If a whole column is cleared, the blocks slide to the center of the field. While removing blocks, a bar along the bottom fills with new blocks. When the bar is full, the new blocks rise up into the game screen, pushing existing blocks toward the top. A “Lines Left” box tells the player how close they are to completing the current level. If any blocks rise to the top of the board, the level is over.

Periodically "bombs" appear mixed among the blocks. Clicking a black bomb causes the surrounding section of blocks to "blow up" and disappear. Colored bombs clear all matching blocks from the board (i.e. green bombs clear all green blocks).

Background & History

Collapse! was developed by GameHouse in 1998 as a free browser game. In March 2004, JAMDAT Mobile and GameHouse partnered to bring Collapse! to mobile phones.[1] Collapse has also been extended to PDA platforms.

Tips & Tricks

For maximum points, concentrate on clearing all colors but one. Once that one color has built up into a large group, click the group and get big bonus points for clearing large block combinations.
When desperate, click madly. You might get lucky and clear sets of blocks you otherwise wouldn't spot.
Click black bombs to clear large areas of blocks, regardless of color.
Click colored bombs to clear all matching blocks from the puzzle (green bombs clear all green blocks).
Bombs must be clicked to explode. If a row of blocks falls on a bomb, it will not detonate and you will lose the bomb.
Indestructible gray blocks will appear in later levels. These blocks cannot be removed without the aid of the black super bomb, so try to save the black super bombs to take out these blocks.
