The Bookworm series of games are developed and published by PopCap. Titles in the Bookworm franchise are typically categorized in the word and/or puzzle genre. The primary goal of each game is to earn points and advance through levels by creating words using letter tiles. In each Bookworm title, game play involves forming words from a series of letter tiles. Players earn points for each word formed and advance through levels. Creating words with more letters and/or more challenging letters will earn extra points and power-ups. Bookworm Adventures expands on the word-forming game play by incorporating elements of a role-playing game and a narrative storyline.
The Bookworm series of games feature an original character, Lex the bookworm. In addition to "eating" the words that are formed, Lex offers hints, encouragement and help. In Bookworm Adventures he also takes on the protaganist role in a casual interpretation of classic role-playing games.

The Bookworm series launched in April 2004 with the release of Bookworm, a free online game, followed by a deluxe downloadable version for Mac and Windows PC. The second title in the series, Bookworm Adventures, released in November 2006 as a deluxe downloadable game (no free online version) for Windows PC. Both titles continue to be top-sellers for PopCap, and have also won numerous industry awards. Some of the Bookworm games are also available on CD ROM and for PDAs and handheld gaming devices.
